Artist: Carol Schiraldi

Künstlerstatement
In this series, I craft images in a surreal style that represent archetypes. Images that exist between worlds, a place where dreams and reality merge, and the unseen whispers its truths. Using multiple exposure photography, I layer fragments of time, color, and form to unveil something greater: a synthesis of identity and imagination. The archetypes: the Writer, the Gardener, the Bird Watcher, the Artist—are not mere characters; they are reflections of universal truths, echoes of the shared human experience. The square format of the images creates a contained world, a window into the surreal realms where reality blurs and the subconscious takes flight. Each square frame is a window into a surreal tapestry, woven from the vibrant threads of memory, imagination, and identity. Colors spill like thoughts, blending and converging, creating landscapes that feel at once familiar and otherworldly. These images are not portraits in the traditional sense, nor are they merely visual riddles; they are mirrors—inviting you to step closer, to see yourself in the layers, to uncover your own essence of being. In my creative process, I embrace the serendipity of the medium. Each exposure is a dance with uncertainty, a conversation with the unknown. Much like the archetypes themselves, these works are timeless yet ever-evolving. They are reflections of our shared humanity, fragments of the infinite kaleidoscope of being. This work is both an invitation and a mirror; an invitation to step into the surreal and see the familiar in unfamiliar ways, and a mirror to recognize the archetypes within ourselves. Each image asks: What archetype will you see in the layers? Perhaps it is one you already know, or one you are just beginning to discover.
Künstlerbiografie
New York born Carol Schiraldi is an abstract visual artist whose passion for experimentation comes alive in her dramatic signature style. Growing up in Scarsdale, a small town on the outskirts of New York City, with a multilingual executive father and a mother known to ballroom dance on roller skates, her childhood was filled with writing, music, and pottery, her earliest visual medium. After training as an engineer and working as a computer programmer, she likes to say photography found her. Moving to Austin, Texas to be part of the burgeoning tech scene in 1992, she picked up a camera as an excuse to go out and explore her new surroundings. What started as a hobby turned into a passion and she is now the guiding force behind Carol’s Little World, the popular blog and website. Since her first show at a local ice cream parlor in Austin, Carol’s artwork has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world. Her work has been selected for over one hundred international juried exhibitions, and been included in numerous permanent collections, print publications, and collectors’ private holdings. She has won various awards and honorable mentions for her photography, including the Prix de la Photographie Paris (PX3,) the Julia Margaret Cameron Awards, the Black and White Spider Awards, and the International Color Awards. Recently, Carol’s images have appeared on top travel and interior design websites such as TexasMonthly.com, TexasTraveler.com, and ModernBungalow.com. Carol is currently living outside of Austin, Texas in the United States. She is an active artist, educator, writer, and speaker regularly contributing to the vibrant Austin-area art scene. When not creating, you can find her enjoying coffee, Ramen noodles, or spinning on her bike.
